Our Team

It takes a team to accomplish Tandika’s mission. We are so blessed to have a global network of passionate individuals, each contributing their unique skills and experiences towards a shared vision: empowering women to revitalize their communities.

LOCAL HEROS

Tandika is run
by Margaret and Janet.

These women are the heroes and the true leaders of the organization, and have lived in the community for many years. They oversee the approval of business loan applications, pair new women with mentors, conduct monthly meetings, manage savings funds, and so much more. They are truly the heart of the organization, the reason Tandika exists, and why it has evolved into the thriving community it is today.

Wilber

Wilberforce Kizza (Margaret’s son) serves on the Ugandan board, and is also an integral part of Tandika. He is a local business owner with two ice cream shops, and provides advice and help to the women when needed. With a bachelor’s degree in community development from Kyambogo University, he is passionate about helping the local community thrive. He coordinates and oversees all Tandika building and sustainability projects.

Growing up with a single mother—after losing his father to Aids when he was 7 years old—has given him a heart for helping empower women like his mother. At age 10 he went to live at a boarding school/orphanage because his mother was unable to care for his needs. Living close to his mother now and working alongside her is a dream come true for him.

Wilber is outgoing, genuine, and full of love for others. He truly possesses a heart of gold. Helping others brings him great joy. Wilber is also a Ugandan musician with songs being played on the radio.

COLLABORATIVE EFFORT

Tandika is a collaborative effort. There are many people who contribute to the success of its mission.

The real heroes are the women who seize the opportunity to transform their lives and communities. They are the ones who make Tandika what it is. The beautiful relationships they have built reinforce the importance of community. We aren’t meant to walk through this life alone.

SUPPORTING TEAM

Every team member is committed to empowering women through Tandika.

Our diverse team is spread across various countries, and brings a wealth of experience and skills. Each member—whether based in the USA or Uganda—plays an integral role in making our mission a reality.

PRESIDENT’S ROLE

As president of the USA board, as well as the Ugandan board, Josh Craner’s main objectives are to:

  • spread the word about the amazing work Tandika is doing in Mbiko, Uganda

  • fundraise to help expand Tandika’s impact, and

  • support operations when needed.

His role is strictly behind-the-scenes. He is committed to the cause and invested in the success of Tandika. He has traveled to Uganda more than 11 times since 2008 when he met Wilberforce Kizza at a boarding school/orphanage when he was only 10 years old. Uganda is his 2nd home.
